MAD Dinners primary concern is the context rather than the product or process. It positions the work ofBeijing-based architects MADin a universal context. For example, a proposal for Beijing 2050 questions the modernist notion of utopia and New Chinas relationship with its natural environment. Another case study is an 800 meter high tower doubled over itself illustrating the power of city marketing. Divided thematically, the book looks at MADs designs to illustrate the freedoms and limitations of the worlds fastest growing urbanization. The book explores idealism and free market realities, the role of the media and cultural icons, enacting change in Chinas political landscape, and projects for environmental protection. A journalistic approach with a series of interviews reconnects architecture to the daily cultural landscape: A taxi driver speaks on China's economy, a doctor describes his ideal architecture… MAD is a Beijing-based studio that has won numerous international design competitions, including the Absolute Tower in Toronto. MAD's designs embrace the advent of a new era, reflecting the transformation of life style and the experience of multimedia formats in contemporary Chinese cities. On Exhibition: November 2007, the Dansk Arkitektur Center, Copenhagen.
